  • What is UPC (Unique porting Code) for MNP Process?

Mobile Number Portability has commenced on January, 20, 2010 all across India and first and foremost to get the benefit from the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) you need to first get the UPC (Unique porting Code). So, let’s check out some important facts on this unique porting code like what does an 8 digit UPC code means and also what will be the validity of this UPC with which you can port your number to the operator of your choice irrespective of CDMA or GSM. Before that if you don’t know how to get the UPC, then you just need to send one simple sms, PORT(your mobile number) to 1900. After sending the sms, you will get the UPC from 1901.
UPC, which is a short form of Unique Porting Code basically consists of 8 characters of which the first two characters specifies the Service provider’s name and Service Area code. Like if the first two characters of UPC is BZ then it specifies a BSNL (B), Maharashtra (Z) number and the remaining 6 characters shall contain 1 to 9, A-N & P-Z only and small letters and the alphabet ‘O’ will never be allowed in the UPC.
